5 Most Popular Nikon Lenses

which-lens-to-buy-for-dslr

Just like with the Canon list, I have put all the 5 most popular lenses that Nikon shooters buy! No big surprises here, cheap lenses that deliver good quality have always been extremely popular and NIkon has a lot of affordable (mostly primes) stuff out there.

1. Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX

Great range for portraits, street photography and other everyday things, and really good on your wallet. Thanks to the AF-S motor, it will auto focus on all Nikon DSLR models (including D3100 etc.). A lot of people actually use this instead of the kit 18-55mm, due to its high quality and light design. I recommend you to try a zoom lens first though, figure out what it is that you want to shoot before you buy a prime lens.

Designed for: DX Cameras.

2. Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S

I think everyone should own a 50mm lens, regardless of the aperture. There’s just something about this focal length that really forces you to be extra creative, and to see photography from another point of view. The 50mm f/1.8G was released in 2010 and is fully compatible with DX and FX models. It’s basically like the lens above, but with slightly more reach.

Designed for: All Nikon DSLR cameras.

3. Nikon 50mm f/1.4G SIC SW

For around $450, you get a slightly larger aperture and better image quality (rarely noticeable though). I think you should only get this if you really need the f/1.4 for low light purposes.

Designed for: All Nikon DSLR cameras.

4. Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR

Great second lens after the 18-55mm, and you’re pretty much covered for almost anything you’d like to shoot. Obviously not on the complete professional level, but for this price, its image quality and sharpness are outstanding.

Designed for: DX Cameras.

5. Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX

For twice the price, you get 100mm more reach, but no Internal Focusing. If you are a beginner on a budget the lens above will be better, but the 55-300mm still has great quality and fast auto focusing, just for more money. Again, it is only compatible with DX models.

Designed for: DX Cameras.
